Cap Go Meh is an ancient tradition of Chinese society, which is held on the 15th day

After Chinese New Year.

The majority about 60 percent ofSingkawang is Chines ethnic, and Cap Go Meh has been held since the 1700s.

In the past, in 1740, the Sultan of Sambas invited the miners from Tiongkok to come to town Mantrodi, about 20 km from Singkawang. Since that Tiongkok society continue to visited and living, until married with local communities. since 1750 Chinese citizens in the region to implement Cap Go Meh, rituals performed by shamans to throw away evil.

Cap Go Meh ceremony in Singkawang is the most unique in the world, because it is mixed with Dayak and Malay tradition, which incorporates elements and general Datuk therein. It is written by experts of history and culture of China, Prof. Margaret Chan.
